It can be painful when multiple processes do not bring you the healing and resolution you seek.

If you got this far, you may wish to consider some of the following options:

  • You may wish to speak with a lawyer if you haven’t already done so. If you are a survivor of sexual harassment in the Workplace, you can reach out to our Safe at Work program to see if you qualify for up to 4 free hours of legal advice. For more information, email [email protected] or click here.
  • You could submit an inquiry to the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission against your employer. Once you have done so, they will determine whether you have a Human Rights Complaint. For information on the inquiry and complaints process, click here
  • You may also choose to file a civil lawsuit against your employer. A lawsuit may make sense if your employer:
    • Fires you
    • Reassigns you or transfers you to a new location without your consent
    • Cuts your hours, wages, benefits, or privileges
    • Places you on an administrative leave of absence.
    • Takes retaliatory action against you for filing a complaint.
  • You may decide to leave your workplace and seek alternative employment. Whether you tried to take action in response to your experience of sexual harassment or not, it’s okay to simply leave a harmful situation. We appreciate that it can be difficult and costly to find a new job and that it might not be possible economically, but we want you to know that no one should have to stay in an unsafe working environment.
    • For more information about this option, feel free to check out our Employment Law page.
  • You may decide to do nothing, and that’s okay, too.

Whatever you decide to do, it’s most important to put your own wellness and care first. Experiencing sexual harassment can have a lasting negative impact on your mind, body, and spirit. Seek support, prioritize your needs, and be gentle with yourself as you recover from such a painful experience.
