Youth Legal Information Project
The Legal Information Society of Nova Scotia (LISNS) is currently working on a two-year (September 2021 to September 2023) "Youth Legal Information Project" (YLIP), funded by The Law Foundation of Ontario (LFO) Access to Justice Fund. LISNS is working in partnership with Nova Scotia Legal Aid and the IWK Health Centre. The YLIP will identify needs and gaps in Nova Scotia public legal education and information materials and resources for youth ages 12 to 24. LISNS is working directly with Nova Scotia youth and stakeholders who support and work with youth to develop new legal information materials, and to find out about existing resources. New materials will focus on key legal issues affecting youth. The youth-centred legal information will be promoted in various youth-focused formats to reach youth to improve their ability to access justice.
The principle products of the project will be:
- Youth-centred legal information that is engaging for youth
- Youth web-based information and innovative delivery methods to promote youth awareness of legal information materials and resources
- Consultations and information sessions
- Youth education model for other jurisdictions.
The legal information content will cover a broad range of legal topics to make it easier for youth, parents, guardians, educators and trusted helpers to find up-to-date legal information in one place.
We are very grateful to The Law Foundation of Ontario's Access to Justice Fund for supporting this project.
