The Award is named in honour of Lorne O. Clarke, QC former Chief Justice of the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal, past member of LISNS Board of Directors and a long time supporter of access to justice and public legal education.
Congratulations to the 2012 winner, lawyer Raymond Wagner!
The Access to Justice Award was created to recognize exceptional contributions in promoting access to justice and legal information in Nova Scotia by an individual or organization in the following areas:

The Legal Information Society is happy to welcome Gavin Leitch to the team for the summer! Gavin will be working with us as part of BoyneClarke LLP's Summer Student Program whereby future articling students are placed with non-profit organizations in the Halifax area.
BoyneClarke's Summer Student Program has been running for years and we are thrilled to continue our partnership with BoyneClarke in this innovative student program. Gavin will be working on developing legal information materials in collaboration with other organizations in the community to help New Canadians adapt to the legal system in Canada.
Originally from Toronto, Gavin has been progressively moving Eastward, first making a stop in Montreal for his undergraduate degree in political science and then on to Moncton where he will be part of Université de Moncton`s Law school 2012 graduating class.
Alongside his dedication to social justice, helping others and contributing to the overall improvement of our communities, Gavin enjoys being outside and meeting new people. Welcome aboard Gavin and many thanks to BoyneClarke!

LISNS has been lucky enough to have had Brendan volunteering with us this summer.
Brendan turned 18 while volunteering with LISNS (Happy Birthday!). He graduated from Sackville High School in June and will be a NSCC student in September taking the 2 year Information Technology course. Brendan is an aspiring rapper and is dabbling in starting his own record label.
We desperately needed to have all of our LISNS publications organized - Brendan took on this mammoth job and accomplished it in record speed. Just look at all those neatly stacked boxes in the photo! He is also incredible with creating graphics. When the new, easier to use version of the LISNS website is released, you will see some of Brendan's creations.
Brendan came to us through the The Pre-Vocational Program at the Provincial Autism Centre. The Program is designed to help prepare students on the spectrum for post-secondary employment by providing skill building modules across various employment topics and then providing valuable job training through work experience placements at professional organizations throughout the HRM. What a great program!
Thank you Brendan. Your work this summer has been crucial to LISNS!
We wish you all the best in school and know you will excel in all your future endeavours.
