Yield to bus rules 2011

Let the bus in

New rules under Nova Scotia’s Motor Vehicle Act require drivers to give right of way to transit buses that are coming back into traffic. The new rules came into force on 1 May 2011.

You must stop or slow down to let a transit bus in if:

  • the bus driver is signaling to come back into traffic
  • there is a  ‘yield to the bus’ sign on the back of the bus (click here to see what the sign looks like)
  • it is safe to do so.

These rules apply if you are on a road where the speed limit is 60 km/hr or less.

Fines for failing to yield to a transit bus are:

  • $167.71 for a first offence
  • $225.21 for a second offence; and
  • $340.21 for a third or subsequent offence.
