Legal Content Reviewer

Are you a lawyer or other professional with experience in the legal or justice system?

Volunteer as a Legal Content Reviewer:

We need your help to keep the legal information we provide up-to-date. Click here to download the Legal Content Reviewer sign-up form.

Q - What are my responsibilities as a Legal Content Reviewer?

You agree to:

  • Complete the Legal Content Reviewer sign-up form
  • Complete at least one (1) legal content review per year, in your area of interest and expertise
  • Complete work in a timely way, usually within one (1) month;
  • Let the LISNS Manager of Legal Information Services know as soon as possible if you cannot complete an assignment or if you need more time to complete it.

Write and edit in plain language please!

Q - How do content reviews work?

The legal content review process is overseen by LISNS Legal Content Committee, a standing committee of the LISNS Board.

Content is usually written by LISNS staff and/or volunteers, and sent to you (usually by email) for editing and review. Reviewers may also write new content, in consultation with LISNS staff, particularly if there is a pressing need for new content on a particular legal topic.

A deadline for review is agreed on between you and the LISNS Manager of Legal Information Services, but in most cases will be within 1 month of taking on the review.

If you miss a deadline, please respond to reminders.  Just let us know if you are unable to complete the work - we'll understand! If a review is not done within 1 month, we'll send 2 reminders and if we don't hear back from you, we'll assume you are no longer able to volunteer.

Q - How do I become a reviewer?

It is easy to become a Legal Content Reviewer.  Membership is open to both lawyers and non-lawyers.  Non-lawyers must have some background in the law or the justice system - for example, working as a paralegal or law librarian.  For lawyers, volunteering as a Legal Content Reviewer may form part of your recommended annual hours of Continuing Professional Development.  It is your responsibility to determine whether the volunteer work will count towards your CPD hours. Go to http://nsbs.org/nsbs-cpd-requirement-1 for information about CPD.

To become a Legal Content Reviewer, please complete the Legal Content Reviewer sign-up form and return it to:
